Stunning Craps Rolls – Stanley Fujitake

Almost 22 years ago a man from Hawaii stepped into a casino and rolled the game of his life. The record stood and the man was immortalized in the annals of craps gaming history. His name of course was Stanley Fujitake. And as a craps player myself I have to tell you that this is no mean feat. When Stan the man rolled those dice as consistently as he did on that evening, everyone in attendance knew they were privy to something out of this world. It was not quite divine, but it was nothing short of spectacular. Fujitake rolled 118 times. He held the dice for 3 hours and 6 minutes. This epic event took place at the California Hotel in Las Vegas. This is how it all happened.

Reflecting on Fujitake’s memorable rolls that evening inspire the craps player within every one of us. I recall hearing of his run-of-form back in the day. It still feels surreal. In several interviews that I’ve read about from dealers, managers and players from Craps 3 – the table Stanley was gaming at – the story is like solid gold. It’s simply priceless. Remember that in those days blackjack was the preferred casino table of most folks, but when it came to craps the dice tables were all the rage. Stanley was so good at his craft that he became known as the man with the golden arm. There are many references to the concept of a golden arm in the gambling chronicles. On that particular evening – early morning actually – Stanley was rolling the game of his life. It pushed into the graveyard shift between 1 am and 5 am and it was a massive insult to the casino’s cash reserves when the night was over. Hundreds of thousands of dollars were lost in that glorious 3 hour roll – a beautiful payback for the countless millions lost by gamblers and received by casinos. Poetic justice for an evening – however short-lived :-) .

What sort of money did Stanley make that Memorial Day Weekend?

Just to get an idea of how busy the table became while he was rolling – it was 4 to 6 people deep. That’s nothing to scoff at. The table was roaring with action and Stanley was red hot. As alluded to earlier, hundreds of thousands were won by the players at the table. Stanley’s share of the winnings is estimated at least $100 grand. But the table winnings that evening were between $750,000 and $1,200,000 – now that’s huge! There were some 118 rolls and 18 pass line wins. Next time around we’re going to get into other interesting facts and figures about craps rolls with the new record holder of successful craps dice rolls.
