Your craps betting options

I’m generally a pretty speculative gambler. That is to say that if I see an opportunity, I’m going to go for it with everything and the kitchen sink. And few games are able to compare to the awesome firepower of the craps table. Forget blackjack and the big winnings you’re capable of on those tables, we’re talking the crème de la crème of table games. If you believe you’ve got a golden arm and you can roll a pair of dice like a champion, then this is your game. Get ready to embark on a thrill-a-minute ride with me into the domain of big punters, mega winnings and spectacular casino action.

Ready yourself for the craps table

Folks, the typical craps table seats around 24 people. Now that says nothing about the bottleneck of people that are going to be milling around the table to catch a glimpse of what’s going on. Believe me, these dice are hot and as a collective players’ game, it’s incomparable. For a standard hour of play, you can expect around 100 decisions being turned over at craps. On the betting front there’s much more going on than you can ever imagine. If you think it’s just about rolling over your golden arm, you’re mistaken. Craps is infinitely complex in the betting realm. My job is to simplify this a tad.

Craps wagers – what you need to know

The very first bet that you’re going to make is the come-out roll. This takes place on the 1st roll of the dice. There are also bets that work in favour of the shooter and those that work against the shooter. The former are Pass Bets, the latter are Don’t Pass bets. There’s nothing to compare to that feeling of taking centre stage and tossing those dice to the far corner of the craps table. If your come-out roll is a 7 or 11 then the Don’t Pass bets will lose and the Pass bets will win. Some important points need to be remembered here:

  • If the come-out roll is 2, 3 or even 12 the shooter hits craps and all the Pass bets will lose out.
  • All the Don’t Pass bets will win on 2 or 3, but 12 is not permitted. Don’t Pass bets don’t win or lose if the come-out roll is 12.
  • Another issue I want to raise is that of points. A point is a come-out roll of any other number. If the point number is rolled prior to the next 7, Pass bets win and Don’t Pass bets lose. However  if you hit a 7 prior to the point number then Don’t Pass bets win and Pass Bets lose.
  • If the craps shooter fails to make the point, the dice are handed to another shooter. This mechanism works in a clockwise direction.

As can be seen from the sprinkling of betting options that I’ve listed, things can quickly get complicated in the game of craps. Online craps games limit the complexity to a manageable level. However there is precious little that compares to the electrifying atmosphere that is craps gaming.
